Essex Junction Fire's Fire Prevention
Essex Junction Fire Departments fire prevention program provides
a mix of entertainment and education for all ages. The program is designed and is delivered
both at our fire station and at various locations within the Village of Essex Junction.
Members give fire station tours that focus not only on the equipment that we have, but how it is
used to benefit the residents of the community. A typical station tour (usually geared for
children, but informative for adults as well) starts out with a demonstration of a firefighters
protective equipment. This is done step by step with the firefighter explaining each part of
his or her protective equipment as they put it on. We show our apparatus and some of the equipment carried on it and
explain (and demonstrate if possible) how this is used, this often helps prevent children from being afraid
of firefighters. (the Thermal Imaging Camera
demonstration is usually a big hit).
We also offer "fire truck tours" at various pre-schools in the village. We start by arriving
with the truck at the location and bringing our gear inside. We review the firefighter, his or her gear and then proceed outside where the children get to sit in the fire truck.
These "fire truck tours" are similar to a station tour, but at your specific location.
Our educational programs are not limited to "showing off" our equipment. We also provide Fire
Extinguisher classes for local businesses and residents as well as safety educational programs.
